Approach: macro science. Palette: bold color field.

Extreme close-up of glycine crystals, glassy colorless prisms with sharp faceted edges and slightly frosted surfaces. They lie in a loose, diagonal cluster across a smooth saturated mustard-yellow backdrop. The camera is low, about 20 degrees above the surface, with a very shallow depth of field. A few crystals in the foreground are razor sharp, and the rest melt into soft golden bokeh. A large softbox from the upper left gives bright, clean highlights along the crystal edges. Light refracts through the prisms and throws small warm caustic glints onto the yellow surface. A single crystal catches a faint electric green sparkle at its tip. The mood is crisp, energetic and optimistic, like a microscopy photograph styled for a magazine. No text.

BY DR. SYNAPSE ·
